There are several things to consider when deciding on what size water tank you need. Do you have access to town water? How many people are in the house? Do you have a pool? Do you have lot of lawn or gardens to water? Most residential clients are looking to have around 100,000L of storage or more. Yes. North Coast has Public liability insurance up to the sum of $10,000,000 for any one occurrence. Our staff are also covered by Workcover.

Concrete or Poly/plastic water tanks? Which is better?

Concrete is an extremely durable, natural product that becomes stronger with age. Water stored in concrete is always cool, clear and algae free with no off tastes or odours from plastics (no plastic liners) and rusting steel. Concrete tanks are fire resistant and will not burn or melt during a bushfire. The concrete will keep you water cool clean and insulated meaning less likely hood of algae growth as light does not penetrate the tank roof or walls. Concrete is a natural proven product safe water storage.
As your concrete tank is constructed in-situ (on your site) generally speaking we can accommodate for difficult access.

Aren’t Concrete Tanks expensive?

It’s true that initially concrete tanks are more expensive than poly, plastic or even tin tanks. That being said if you consider the “whole of life” cost benefits of a concrete tank, North Coast Tanks believes the client will be far better off over the life of the tank. E.g. water quality, build quality and longevity just to name a few.

Can North Coast Tanks connect and plumb my tank to my house?

North Coast Tanks is a QBCC licenced Tank Builder, unfortunately to connect the tank to your house you will need a QBCC licenced Plumber. North Coast Tanks do however fit the internal plumbing on your tank. (see brochure for further information).

Water tanks can be very large and take up a lot of room, can concrete water tanks be buried?

We can also bury you tank completely underground with the possibility of buildings or structures built on them and light and heavy vehicles driven on them.

What’s the difference between a “pre-cast” concrete water tank and a “built in-situ” concrete water tank?

Pre-cast tanks are made in a factory or similar and then transported to site. As these pre-cast tanks are transported on the back of a truck they are limited to a diameter of being approximately 3.4m wide. Built in-situ tanks are constructed from scratch on your site which allows larger sizes with thicker walls and floors (minimim 150mm) and roofs as more reinforcing steel goes into the tanks. North Coast Tanks builds tanks from 16,400L to 360,000L with the option of 11 different sizes in between. To deliver a pre-cast tank the truck will need access directly beside the tank site to allow the tank to be craned off. As our tanks are built in-situ tanks can generally be built in positions that are more difficult to access. If we can get a large concrete truck within approximately 50m of the tank site in most cases we can build your tank.

What areas do you cover?

For our residential tanks we generally cover from Ipswich, Gold Coast to Gympie and Maryborough although we can accommodate a wider area if requested. For our commercial tanks we can cover the entire state of Queensland and Northern NSW.

How long will my concrete tank last?

All North Coast Tanks are built in-situ with a minimum 150mm thick walls and floor as well a minimum 72 Reinforcing mesh and 12mm reinforcing bar. Our larger tanks come with heavier duty reinforcing steel. If installed correctly by a licensed and experienced operator a concrete water tank should last a lifetime (30 plus years). Please note North Coast Tanks warranty is 7 years.

Do I need a separate Fire tank?

Our concrete tanks will not melt. You can combine your fire storage requirements and house water needs together in one larger tank. North Coast Tanks will provide two outlets. One outlet for household use (32mm gate valve or 32mm suction line) and one for firewater/Council requirements. (50mm which the Firefighters can attach directly to).

What is Autogenous healing

Autogenous healing is the ability of concrete to repair or heal cracks (self-healing) in the presence of moisture.

What Guarantee do North Coast Tanks offer?

North Coast Tanks offer a 7-year QBCC backed guarantee.

Do I need Council Approval? Where on my property can I build my concrete water tank?

Each individual council has different requirements. Please check with your local Certifier and council regarding approvals, specific boundary setbacks and setbacks from HSTP systems.
